Beattie desperate to impress at Swansea after early struggles
Published:Three goals in 25 appearances for Swansea is, according to Craig Beattie, just not good enough.
The Scottish international was the Swans’ record signing when he joined for £800 000 from West Brom, but he’s failed to live up to his price tag.
“I’ve not had an easy time since I came down to Swansea,” Beattie said.
“I spent the majority of last season in the stands for whatever reason and unfortunately I picked up a nasty injury at the end of pre-season.”
Beattie says he’s determined to put the effort in to get back in the Swans first team and start scoring again.
“I’ve worked really hard to get back and I am desperate to impress the manager. Quality-wise I know I’ve got more to give the team and I just hope I get the opportunity to show the gaffer what I’ve got,” he added.
Beattie is also confident the Swans can push for promotion and concluded: “We can compete with most teams. We’ve played QPR and if they are the benchmark then we won’t be too far away at the end of the season.”
Beattie’s first opportunity to be back among the goals will be against one of his former teams this weekend, Crystal Palace.
Beattie scored five goals in 15 appearances for Palace in 2008 and is 7/1 to be the first goalscorer against them this weekend.
The Swans should be confident, Palace have only won once at home all season and have lost three of their last four matches.
Odds of 2/1 on a home win seem a little generous, but at 11/8, the Swans are a great shout.
Especially with the form they’re in, unbeaten in five, with good wins away at Reading and Watford, the team are well worth their third place and are only 14/1 to win the Championship.
