Baggies batter Leicester as they continue impressive run

Published:

With the Walkers Stadium buzzing following the appointment of Sven Goran Eriksson, West Brom’s fourth round Carling Cup trip to Leicester was billed as a difficult game, but the Baggies were having none of it.

Despite making a full 11 changes from the team that beat Fulham at the weekend, West Brom comfortably overcame the Foxes by four goals to one.

Leicester will be very disappointed by the scoreline, having hoped for a cup upset to boost their struggling league form, but were overpowered by West Brom.

Sitting impressively in the sixth in the Premier League and with big guns like Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool out of the competition, West Brom should now be taken very seriously as potential winners of the Carling Cup.

Though, they’re only ranked at 12/1, behind neighbours Birmingham and Aston Villa who are both at 7/1, the Baggies have already dispatched Manchester City from the competition and were able to draw on an impressive second string last night.

Opportunities for the likes of Simon Cox and Steven Reid have been limited this season, with both clocking up less than an hour of Premier League football each.

But both responded last night, with the Irish international grabbing his first goal of the season and Cox hitting a brace.

The Baggies will be hoping to continue their unbeaten run as they travel to Blackpool next Monday.

Though the Tangerines have defied all expectations this season, they’ve lost four out of their five games and they’ve yet to win at home this campaign.

West Brom will be clear favourites and are given 6/4 to beat Blackpool.

The Tangerines are made 9/5, but will have targeted this game as a must win as they will need to take points from the teams who were promoted with them to have any chance of surviving in the top flight.

West Brom are 12/1 to win the Carling Cup. Follow the full Carling Cup odds market here.
