Atletico and Villarreal face off as both bid to challenge top two

Published:

Diego Forlan will return to his former club on Sunday evening as his Atletico side chase a win that would put them level on points with their opponents.

Villarreal have surprised everyone with their start to the season, and the side sitting in second will be hopeful of maintaining their early pressure at the top of La Liga.

Last season Villarreal took the full compliment of points against Atletico with 2-1 wins in both ties and Villarreal are 5/4 to win on Sunday and 7/1 to win 2-1.

Atletico have only managed the one La Liga victory over Villarreal, winning 1-0 at the Madrigal in 2007, and Diego Forlan and his side are 9/4 to win but have only managed on victory on the road once in 13 games.

At 5/4, the home side offer plenty of value and it’s hard to make a case for Atletico upsetting the odds, especially as they have kept only one clean sheet away from home in 2010.

In Diego Costa, Villarreal can boast a player who has scored in his last three appearances against Atletico, and Costa is 7/1 to score first while over 2.5 goals is available at 8/11.

Sevilla vs Atheltic Bilbao

There is just one point separating these two sides in the La Liga table but Sevilla will be confident of victory considering they have only lost once to their opponents in 13 games, winning 11 of those – they are 8/11 to beat Atheltic Bilbao.

Sevilla are stuggling for form though, winning just once in their last four games and Bilbao might sniff a chance of a victory and they are 4/1 to beat Sevilla.

Freddy Kanoute enjoys himself against Bilbao, he’s scored seven goals in his La Liga career against Bilbao and is 11/2 to score first against a side that have won only one of their last 15 games on the road.

It’s 5/2 for Sevilla and Bilbao to draw. See the full La Liga betting odds market here.
