Wigan vs Sunderland – Gyan to resurrect poor away form

Published:

Asamoah Gyan could make an immediate impact for Sunderland by helping them build on an awful away record in the Premier League with a win at Wigan.

The Ghanaian striker is set to be handed his debut after arriving at the end of the transfer window for a club record £13m from Lens and will partner Darren Bent in attack.

And he will be faced with the task of improving Sunderland’s dreadful run which has seen them win just once in their last 19 Premier League outings on the road.

Sunderland are 9/5 to win at Wigan and Gyan is 11/8 to mark his first game with a goal at any time in the 90 minutes.

Wigan head into the game high on confidence after collecting a surprise 1-0 victory in their last fixture at Tottenham, but they have not won back-to-back league games since March 2009.

If they are to win then there is a strong possibility that it will be by a single goal as their last four Premier League successes have all been by a one-goal margin.

Meanwhile, if Wigan do manage any goals then the scorer of their first will go down in the record books as it will be the club’s 100th goal in the Premier League at home.

Charles N’Zogbia was left out of the victory over Tottenham but Roberto Martinez is considering him for selection again and he is 10/1 to break the deadlock.

Wigan have won three of their four Premier League meetings at home to Sunderland and two of these have finished 1-0, which can be backed at 7/1.

Hugo Rodallega scored the only goal in this fixture last season and a repeat of the same scoreline and scorer is 35/1. See the whole Wigan vs Sunderland match betting market.
