US Open enters second round and value appears in the betting

Ana Ivanovic will open the show on the Arthur Ashe court as the third day of the US Open gets underway in New York, but she won’t have things all her own way.

Ivanovic’s troubles on the court are well documented but it seems she has found her way back into form after her semi-final appearance in the Western & Southern Women’s Open and is 2/5 to defeat Jie Zheng.

However Zheng will fancy her chances as she leads Ivanovic 2-1 in head-to-head matches and beat the Serbian on the last occasion they met on a hard court 7-6, 2-6, 6-4.

Ivanovic has been inconsistent in Grand Slams since heading the World rankings in 2008 and is 13/5 to defeat Zheng in three sets, but the value is with Zheng who is 4/1 to defeat the Serb in three sets.

Andy Roddick returns to Arthur Ashe but faces a tough second round match against Ivanovic’s fellow countryman Janko Tipsarevic.

It took Tipsarevic four sets to defeat Olivier Rochus in the first round but his hard court form has been impressive en route to the US Open and he is 7/2 to defeat Roddick.

However Roddick has also shown signs of being back to his best and with the support of his home crowd behind him he should progress, although he could drop a set and is 12/5 to win in four sets.

One match that screams value is Gael Monfils against Igor Andreev.

Frenchman Monfils is 2/5 to defeat Andreev but had to battle hard in his opener with Robbie Kendrick, winning the final set 6-4, and could feel the after effects as he prepares for a match against a player he has only beaten once in five attempts.

All matches between these two have never gone the distance and Andreev’s previous straight sets defeat of Monfils on the hard courts means the 8/1 offered for a 3-0 victory looks incredible value.

Murray is also in action today and is 1/100 to progress to the next round. See the latest US Open tennis betting markets here.
