Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolves – European hangover beckons

Published:

Wolverhampton Wanderers travel to London hoping to take advantage of a Tottenham Hotspur side suffering from a European hangover.

Mick McCarthey’s Wolves side were one of two sides that managed the double over Spurs last season, the other side was Manchester United, and they are 7/1 continue their winning streak.

Wolves have started strongly to their second consecutive season in the Premier League with five points from four games, and McCarthy will be targeting three points despite Spurs being such short favourites.

Historically Spurs struggle after a tough European match, and 7/1 seems long considering Spurs have won just four times in fifteen attempts after gaining a draw or win in Europe.

In that stretch they have lost home games with Birmingham, Hull, Everton, and drawn and lost at home to Wigan.

Having watched his side squander a 2-0 lead in Germany, Harry Redknapp will need to find the motivation that his side need if they are to win against Wolves – they are 4/9 to take the three points.

Rafael Van der Vaart had to be removed early in the second half in that match due to a calf strain and is likely to miss the tie but Luka Modric will return after surviving a suspected broken leg scare.

Spurs have only lost three of their last 18 away games all by a 0-1 scoreline and the same to happen on Saturday is 12/1.

William Gallas is likely to return to the side as Ledley King will be rested following his excursions in midweek and Spurs can be backed at 10/11 to keep a clean sheet.

Don’t expect a lot of goals in this game, it’s 1/1 for there to be under 2.5 goals in the match. See the latest Tottenham Hotspur vs Wolverhampton Wanderers betting market here.
