Tiger Woods gunning for a Ryder Cup clash with Rory McIlroy
Published:It would be tough to not know about Tiger’s season on and off the course, but his preparations for the the Ryder Cup have been thorough and it seems the world number one is out to prove a point in South Wales.
After Woods finished 18-over par at the WGC Bridgestone Invitational, Rory McIlroy said, “unless his game rapidly improves in the next month or so, I think anyone in the European team would fancy his chances against him.”
Tiger’s game hasn’t rapidly improved with the American spending much of his time on the driving range tinkering with his swing.
The world number one enters the Celtic Manor with his form unknown but is still a 2/1 favourite to be the top wild card in the competition.
Woods was reminded of McIlroy’s desire to face him in the singles in Tuesday’s Ryder Cup press conference and, when asked his opinion on the matter, Woods responded with a simple “me too.”
Tiger has lost just one of his four singles matches in the Ryder Cup and Rory McIlroy may have made the faux-pas of the tournament so far in stirring a sleeping Tiger.
Woods’ is 8/1 to be the top point scorer in the competition but is notoriously difficult to partner in the fourballs and foursomes.
However Steve Stricker seemed to unlock the secret of playing with Tiger at the Presidents Cup, when the two won all four matches they partnered each other in.
If they can repeat that partnership, coupled with Tigers singles form, he would be a dead cert to top the scoring charts but question marks surround his commitment to a tournament USA are 13/8 to win.
