Southampton finally show some signs of life after Alan Pardew
Published:After five games without a victory or a goal since controversially sacking Alan Pardew, Southampton at last have something to celebrate after a 1-0 triumph away to Sheffield Wednesday.
The Saints exited the relegation zone courtesy of Lee Barnard’s second goal of the season as former Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins was able to celebrate his first victory in charge of the club at the third attempt.
Despite currently lying nine points off the top of the table, Southampton are among the frontrunners in the betting at 5/1, a shorter price than former leaders Sheffield Wednesday, who are out to 6/1 after a fourth straight defeat dumped them into the bottom half.
Elsewhere, the curse of the pacesetters struck again as Huddersfield were the latest team to find their stay in first place short-lived. A 1-0 loss to Swindon saw them overtaken by Brighton, who beat Oldham 2-1, while Peterborough and Bournemouth also pushed past them.
