Sneijder set to be handed new contract extension by Inter

Wesley Sneijder could be set to almost double his wages at Inter Milan as Rafa Benitez continues in his quest to hand contract extensions to his star players.

Sneijder was influential as Inter claimed the treble of the Champions League, Serie A and the Italian Cup last season, while he also scored five times at the World Cup to help Holland reach the final.

His level of form linked him with a reported move to Manchester United over the summer, but Sneijder opted to remain in Italy.

And this loyalty is set to allow Sneijder to substantially boost his wages at Inter, where it is rumoured that he is being offered a deal worth £110,000 a week until 2014.

This is a substantial improvement on his current wages of £65,000 a week and follows the news that Diego Milito and Samuel Eto’o are already in negotiations to extend their present contracts.

Sneijder played the full 90 minutes in Inter’s first league game this season, but was unable to have the creative influence to unlock a well-drilled Bologna defence as the game finished goalless.

However, Inter remain the 11/10 favourites to win Serie A this season and they have the chance to gain their first victory of the campaign at home to Udinese next.

Inter are 1/3 to take the three points, while a repeat of last season’s 2-1 victory, where Sneijder grabbed a 90th minute winner, is 7/1.

Rivals AC Milan are 6/4 to win Serie A and have been recently boosted by the arrivals of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Robinho. See the whole Serie A winners market.
