Shrewsbury issue an impressive response to first setback
Published:Having never finished higher than seventh since being relegated into League Two in 1997, there are understandably doubts over early pacesetters Shrewsbury’s ability to last the distance, however this weekend’s evidence was encouraging.
A week after falling to their first league defeat since Graham Turner’s return to the club away at Gillingham, Shrewsbury recovered to beat Northampton, who hadn’t lost since the opening day, 3-1, with Jake Robinson striking twice.
It was Torquay who capitalised on Shrewsbury’s slip last week to regain top spot but their draw at Stevenage allowed the Shrews to return to the summit, although they are still 8/1 to finish the season there.
It’s the Gulls, now two points behind them in fourth, who are rated 5/1 favourites, while Bradford – many pundits’ pre-season pick – are out at 20/1 despite recording their second win of the campaign against Gillingham yesterday.
