Sharp to gain more than most from international break

Billy Sharp is convinced that the international break will be good news for Doncaster as it will allow him to regain his fitness.

Sharp has already scored twice for Doncaster this season, both from the penalty spot, despite a range of injuries preventing him from being 100 per cent.

A thigh problem hindered him towards the end of the last campaign, he injured his groin during pre-season and recently has been bothered by a calf complaint that he picked up in training.

However, he is optimistic that the added week of rest and training that all Championship teams benefit from because of the international break will be especially beneficial for him.

Sharp told Sky Sports: “The international break has come at the right time for me as I’ve not been 100 per cent so far yet.

“That is the main thing on my mind, and with the extra week without a game, I’m very hopeful that I will be back to full fitness.”

Doncaster have made a reasonable start to the season and sit in mid-table after collecting seven points from their opening four games.

They are 33/1 to win the Championship this season and retaining their current unbeaten record at home could substantially help with this quest.

But they begin their next run of three Championship games in six days with an away trip to Watford, ahead of playing Norwich at home before Leeds visit the Keepmoat Stadium.

Doncaster will also need Sharp to be on top form in front of goal if they are to challenge for promotion and he is 20/1 to end the season as the leading scorer in the Championship.
