Newcastle vs Blackpool – Campbell raring to make Toon debut

Published:

Sol Campbell is in line to make his Newcastle debut as Chris Hughton goes in search of a second big victory at St James’ Park this season.

Newcastle’s only home fixture this season ended in a 6-0 mauling of Aston Villa and now they host fellow Premier League newcomers Blackpool hoping for the same again, where they 8/13 to win.

Campbell arrived on a free transfer over the summer after leaving Arsenal and has proved he is fit enough to feature by making two appearances for the reserves.

However, if he is to start then Hughton will have to change his starting line-up for the first time in the top-flight this season, which may also mean that other new recruits Hatem Ben Arfa and Cheik Tiote could start on the bench.

Andy Carroll scored a hat-trick in the triumph over Aston Villa and is expected to be fit to face Blackpool after being troubled by a minor ankle complaint.

He is 3/1 to open the scoring and 8/13 to find the target within the 90 minutes.

However, although Newcastle enjoyed their greatest hour in the Premier League this season at home, Blackpool experienced theirs away, in a 4-0 opening day win at Wigan.

Marlon Harewood scored two in that game and is preparing to return to the club where he spent some time on loan last season, scoring four times in 15 appearances.

He is 7/2 to score at any time, although for Blackpool to win they will need to end Newcastle’s record of 26 games without defeat at St James’ Park.

Newcastle won their home game against Blackpool in the Championship last season 4-1 and a repeat is 25/1. See the whole Newcastle vs Blackpool match betting market.
