Martinez drawn to face old club Swansea in Carling Cup
Published:Swansea may have avoided the tie against one of the big Premier League clubs that they would have hoped for, but they did get the second prize of the chance to eliminate former manager Roberto Martinez from the Carling Cup.
Martinez spent three years at the helm of Swansea and oversaw their promotion from League One into the Championship before moving on to experience the Premier League with Wigan.
Wigan needed two late goals to see off Preston in round three, but will fancy their chances of qualifying for the quarter finals after being drawn at home and are 20/1 to win the Carling Cup.
Brentford and Northampton, the two lowest ranked teams left in the competition, were also hopeful of playing the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal, but both missed out on lucrative ties.
Northampton will play in the only last 16 clash not involving a Premier League team as they travel to Championship high-flyers Ipswich.
Meanwhile, Brentford will get to test themselves against Premier League opposition with a trip to Birmingham, who are pretty formidable at home having not lost at St Andrews for a year in the top flight.
Six clubs from outside of the Premier League made it through to the last 16 of the Carling Cup and of the others, Leicester may most fancy their chances of progression as they will play at home to West Brom.
The other game sees Burnley have a difficult tie away at last season’s beaten finalists Aston Villa.
