Martin Kaymer in action at KLM Open ahead of Ryder Cup debut

Published:

Martin Kaymer will tee off at 12.30pm today in his first tournament since winning his first major at the US PGA Championship.

The KLM has been unable to attract a particularly strong crowd with the final FedEx cup playoff stating in America today, but the appearance of a major winner will be welcomed by the sponsors.

Kaymer will be playing alongside Alvaro Quiros and Robert-Jan Derksen and is 5/4 to perform the best in that three ball.

“I qualified easily by winning the PGA and I see this week as a good way to get ready for the Ryder Cup,” said Kaymer, “It is nice for me to come back to Holland where I used to come with my parents in the past because it is so close to home.

Kaymer will be up against Ryder Cup teammate Ross Fisher in Holland as he attempts back to back victories, and Fisher will be his main concern in the pursuit of a title he was 12/1 to win before the early tee times this morning.

Fisher is a 7/1 shot to triumph in Hilversum and he will want to prove his form after impressive finishes by Edoardo Molinari, Miguel Angel Jimenez and Luke Donald in recent weeks.

Colin Montgomerie’s Europe will be confident ahead of the Ryder Cup even after USA captain Corey Pavin announced three major winners in his wildcard picks.

The KLM Open represents a good opportunity for Fisher and Kaymer to build confidence ahead of the greatest team event in golf and they will be hopeful of completing a European victory come October 3rd.

It’s worth keeping an eye on Damien McGrane this week after the Irishman’s three top 20 finishes including two top 10’s, in his last four appearances in the KLM open.

McGrane is a 50/1 shot to win the KLM Open. See the full KLM Open golf betting market here.
