Marlon King on the road to redemption thanks to Coventry
Published:He’s been in training with Coventry for the past few weeks and after lengthy discussions, Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd has provided Marlon King with a second chance.
Boothroyd was King’s manager when the two were at Watford, and after serving his 18-month sentence for sexual assault, Boothroyd believes he’s getting a top quality player.
“I think we are getting a £5m player for nothing,” said the Coventry boss.
“When I managed Marlon at Watford he was a first class professional and I fully expect that to be the case at Coventry City.
King has 108 goals in his 345 professional appearances, whilst he has also found the net 10 times in 18 international starts for Jamaica, and Boothroyd will hope King can find the goals to keep Coventry away from relegation.
The singing comes just days after Coventry finally ended their poor record away from home, they hadn’t won away since beating Peterborough in March but they overcame Bristol City 2-1 at Ashton Gate.
Coventry have two home games against bottom of the table Preston and Doncaster before they next travel away and six points from those two games could see them move into the play-off places.
At 66/1, Coventry are long shots in the Championship winners betting market, but they are only two points behind second placed Ipswich and a decent run could see that price shorten.
The arrival of King means Coventry can boast an honour roll of top strikers including Clive Platt, Gary McSheffrey, Freddy Eastwood and Lukas Jutkiewicz, with the latter being 40/1 to end the season as the Championship’s top goalscorer.
