Man United vs Liverpool – refreshed United eye Reds scalp

Published:

Manchester United’s title credentials will be given their most probing examination to date when they face their arch rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday (kick-off 1.30pm).

Alex Ferguson’s men have two wins and two draws from their first four matches of the season, and they are priced at 8/11 to secure victory against their Lancastrian foes.

Having rested the majority of his first choice players for the frustrating 0-0 Champions League draw with Ranger in midweek, Ferguson will be hoping that a fresh side can cause Liverpool difficulties.

Dimitar Berbatov was one of the big names to miss Tuesday’s stalemate, and the in-form Bulgarian striker is 5/1 to open the scoring.

Manchester United’s imperious home form – they have won 12 of their last 13 matches at Old Trafford – makes them firm favourites to beat Liverpool.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have endured a somewhat stuttering beginning to the campaign, languishing as they are in 13th place in the Premier League table.

Furthermore, with just one win from their last 11 Premier League away games, victory for Liverpool seems unlikely at 4/1.

Roy Hodgson’s side will have been boosted, however, by their 4-1 Europa League win against Steaua Bucharest on Thursday.

David Ngog is the Reds’ top scorer this season with six goals in all competitions, and the young forward is priced at 9/1 to break the deadlock.

With six red cards shown in the last seven meetings between these two, referee Howard Webb could be in for a busy afternoon.

Wayne Rooney’s last Premier League goal from open play came against Liverpool in March. Can he strike again? He is 4/1 to score first. See the full Man United vs Liverpool Match Betting Odds market.
