League leaders out to avenge play-off defeat to Gillingham

Published:

Relegated Gillingham are yet to win a game this season and the Gills will host a Shrewsbury team gunning for revenge after their 2008/09 play-off final defeat.

Shrewsbury had beaten the Gills 7-0 earlier in the season but Gillingham won the game that really mattered, promoting them up to League One only for them to be come straight back down last season.

The Shrews are likely to be unchanged from the side that beat Rotherham to send them top of the league and they are 17/10 to win in Kent on Saturday.

Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler may recall striker Dennis Oli after proving his fitness with a brace in the reserves following a hamstring injury and Hessenthaler will be hoping he can find the net as Gillingham look to justify 6/4 favouritism.

Torquay United vs Accrington Stanley

Torquay boss Paul Buckle won the manager of the month award for August after his team went unbeaten, and Buckle will be hoping that last week’s defeat to Southend United was just a blip in their hunt for the League Two title – they are 5/1 to do so.

Accrington Stanley have kept four clean sheets in five games this season, enduring three goalless draws along the way and that result to happen on Saturday is 10/1.

Both teams won their home games against each other last season, and Torquay are 8/11 to bounce back from the Southend defeat.

Stockport County vs Bradford

These two sides have faced each other 100 times over the years and have only shared a goalless draw once, the first time they ever met, which suggests 8/1 for a 0-0 score line today is a little short.

Stockport manager Paul Simpson will be hoping his team can pick up their first win of the season at Edgeley Park, they are 8/5, but will have to score in front of their own fans for the first time this season to do so.

Bradford can upset the Hatters and are 13/8 to win. See the full League Two football betting market here.
