Jimenez leads European Masters heading into the final day
Published:A faultless second round from Miguel Angel Jimenez put him in contention to win the European Masters in Switzerland and he continued his form in the third as he leads the tournament by two shots.
Jimenez shot an exceptional 10-under par 61 on Friday but his playing partners Edoardo Molinari and Matteo Manassero matched him stroke for stroke in the third round and are three shots and four shots behind respectively.
The Spanaird is 2/5 to win the Omega European Masters with nothing over the past three days suggesting he’s felt the pressure at any stage.
Even a penalty drop shot on the 10th fairway for picking up his ball believing he could place it, didn’t deter him.
The Crans-sur-Sierre course allows players to place their balls on the sixth fairway, but a moment of absent-mindedness from Jimenez cost him a one-shot-penalty.
Molinari, 11/4 second favourite to win, and Steve Webster will join Jimenez in the final three-ball tomorrow, and if Molinari or Jimenez can go on to take the first prize, that will make it four wins in a row for members of the European Ryder Cup team.
Martin Kaymer’s success in the USPGA Championship three weeks ago started the run of successs for Colin Montgomeries team.
This was followed by Peter Hanson at the Czech Open and Molinari at the Johnnie Walker Championship and puts the European team in incredible form as they head into the Ryder Cup on October 1st – they are 8/13 to win.
