Ian Baraclough gets the nod as new Scunthorpe manager
Published:Scunthorpe United have confirmed Ian Baraclough as their new manager after Baraclough impressed in his role as caretaker manager.
Baraclough has been in charge for three games since his predecessor Nigel Adkins left to manage Southampton, and has overseen a 4-0 victory at Sheffield United followed by defeats to Swansea, (0-2), and Manchester United in the Carling Cup, (2-5).
The Scunthorpe board has decided that Baraclough is the man to lead the team and the Irons chairman Steve Wharton told the club’s website, “he is an exceptionally nice person who I had pencilled in as a prospective manager some two years ago.
“I and my board will do our utmost to give Ian all the support he needs to continue and build upon our recent successes.”
The 39-year-old joined Scunthorpe as a player in 2004 and was part of a side that rose from League Two up to the Premiership.
With his playing days behind him, Baraclough will be hoping to continue that rise and turn Scunthrope into a Championship winning side, starting with the match against Ipswich on Saturday.
