Huddersfield fight back from 2-0 down to top League One

Last season’s play-off semi-finalists Huddersfield are back at the head of the League One table after the curse of the leaders struck again.

Seven games into the campaign, there hasn’t been one weekend where the team starting in first place have won their match and that streak was maintained as Peterborough were forced to settle for a 2-2 away at Exeter.

With second-placed Carlisle held at home by Brighton, Huddersfield – who were fifth before kick-off – climbed four places with a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over Yeovil, and they are now 3/1 favourites to do what nobody else seems capable of and stay there until May.

The two sides expected to set the pace at the start of the season, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday, both look anything but promotion contenders at the moment, and endured further setbacks.

Sheffield Wednesday, who remain second in the title betting at 4/1, suffered a third successive defeat, and arguably the least excusable of the bunch, as they were beaten 3-2 by Plymouth, who hadn’t won a match since the opening day.

Their victims on that occasion were Southampton. The Saints are out to 6/1 to top the table and though they picked up their first point since sacking Alan Pardew, a goalless draw at home to unbeaten Colchester was hardly a cause for wild celebration.
