Harry Redknapp backs Aaron Lennon to recapture top form
Published:Since recovering from a groin that saw him miss four months of the 2009/10 Premier League season, Aaron Lennon is yet to recapture the form that has convinced the Tottenham fans he is an invaluable asset to the team.
As one of the many England players that had an awful world cup campaign, Harry Redknapp is eager to see his diminutive winger play to his full potential, but too much emphasis is placed on Lennon’s importance to the team.
Lennon will start in Spurs clash with FC Twente in the Champions League on Wednesday in a game that Spurs are 4/5 to win, and Peter Crouch will be hoping that Lennon can provide the service to provide him with his 10th goal in 12 European matches – Crouch is 4/5 to score at any time.
Despite missing four months, Lennon managed 22 games in the Premier League last season, scoring three goals with 9 assists, as Spurs claimed 40 points from a possible 66.
In the 16 games that Lennon didn’t feature in, Spurs managed to pick up 37 points from a possible 48, including wins against Chelsea and Arsenal at the business end of the season which saw them finish fourth.
Aston Villa make the trip to White Hart Lane on Saturday to face a Spurs side that struggle after positive European results so the 3/1 available for Villa to win will be worth a punt if Spurs beat Twente tonight.
Barring any mishaps on Wednesday, Lennon will feature in Saturday’s game but his record for Spurs against Villa isn’t impressive.
In the seven games he’s played against Villa, he’s been involved in three losses and four draws.
