Harrington shoots equal best round of season ahead of Ryder Cup

A third round 69 and a final round 64 has led many to believe that Padraig Harrington has found some form ahead of the Ryder Cup.

But compare his form to his fellow European teammates, and it seems Harrington is still struggling to find his best form ahead of a tournament Europe are 8/13 to win.

Harrington’s previous best round of the year was a 64 at the Irish Open where he eventually finished second, but his fellow Ryder Cup team-mates have fared better in tournaments where they were the stand-out player.

The triple major winner was the highest-ranked player in the Vivendi Cup field and should have dominated a tournament where the eventual winner, John Parry, was ranked 116th on the European Tour money list.

After the first two rounds in Paris, Harrington was in the clubhouse wondering if he would be back to challenge for the third round as he flirted dangerously with the cut.

The two rounds that followed promoted Harrington to a tie for eighth place, four shots behind the leader but his comments following his final round suggest Harrington isn’t happy with his game.

“The week before a big event is all about seeing where your game is at and seeing what work needs to be done,” said the Irishman.

Most of the players will enter the Ryder Cup high in confidence, knowing a little tweaking on the driving range will help them adapt to the Celtic Manor’s conditions.

But it seems Harrington has a lot of work to do before the Ryder Cup tees off on Friday and the 12/1 for Harrington to be top European point scorer should be avoided.
