Harding believes Southampton close to improvement in results
Published:Dan Harding remains optimistic that Southampton can bounce back from their disappointing start to the season and make the necessary improvements to challenge for the League One title.
The Saints began the season as the favourites to win League One, but four points from four games and the sacking of manager Alan Pardew has seen them drift to 7/2.
Dean Wilkins has been placed in temporary charge until a new managerial appointment is made , but his two games in charge have both ended in defeat, including when losing 2-0 at home in their last League One outing against Rochdale.
Despite this form not being characteristic of title challengers, defender Harding feels there are still reasons to remain cheerful.
He told the official Southampton website: “It’s not all doom and gloom and the lads realise that we are in an ok-ish position. Of course we would like to be at the top and looking down, but we are not.
“It’s up to the players to put that right. We are playing well but not quite getting the results that the performances deserve. It’s just a matter of time before it all comes together.”
Up next for Southampton is a quick chance for redemption as they travel to Swindon in the league, with their opponents recently knocking them out of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
Southampton are 6/4 to win only their second league match of the season at Swindon, while the hosts are considered the slight underdogs at 17/10.
Furthermore, Swindon beat Southampton 1-0 in both League One meetings last season, with a repeat valued at 7/1.
