Giggs wants win against Liverpool to put United back on track

Ryan Giggs is targeting the game with arch-rivals Liverpool as the match that could kick start their season.

United trail Chelsea by four points just four games into the season thanks to some shoddy defending which has seen them concede five goals, three of them coming in the final minutes of games.

And the stalemate with Rangers on Tuesday night saw United drift from 6/1 to 8/1 to win the Champions League whilst Chelsea have gone odds on 10/11 to win the Premier League.

“There’s not a lot wrong,” said Giggs, “we should have won at Everton last week, so we are generally in good form I think.

“We just haven’t finished teams off, just like against Rangers, when we were a bit sloppy at times.

“The concentration lapses are a concern, but we’re not too far away, if we finish our chances off, we will be beating teams four or five nil.”

United have scored 11 times in their four Premier League matches so far, winning 3-0 at Newcastle and 3-0 at home to West Ham which would suggest that their defence hasn’t been functioning at its best.

The return of Rio Ferdinand in midweek will be a huge boost to Sir Alex Ferguson as he prepares stamp out the defensive lapses in concentration which have cost United four points already this season.

United are 8/11 to beat a Liverpool side that has yet to gel under Roy Hodgson, but Ferguson will hope his team are able to break down the Liverpool side after failing miserably against Rangers in midweek.

Liverpool average just 0.92 goals at Old Trafford, in line with their season average of a goal a game. See the full Manchester United vs Liverpool match betting market here.
