Game of the day sees Wozniacki take on home favourite Sharapova

Maria Sharapova’s ruthless victory over rising star, Beatrice Capra, in the third round reminded top seeds Caroline Wozniacki and Kim Clijsters that the American is not to be forgotten as they chase the US Open title.

Wozniacki and Clijsters have both looked impressive, cantering into the latter stages, but Sharapova’s 6-0, 6-0 victory is a timely reminder that they won’t have it all their own way, especially for Wozniacki who faces Sharapova on Arthur Ashe today.

The match is a mouth-watering prospect, the number one seed has dropped just three games en route to the fourth round, but Sharapova is yet to concede a set to the Danish star in their two previous meetings.

Sharapova, 10/11 to win the tie, stuttered in the first round where she came back from a set down but has looked in great shape since, and has been cut from 14/1 to 5/1 to win the US Open – a victory today would see that reduce dramatically.

Wozniacki isn’t seeded number one without a reason though, reaching the final of her two competitions prior to this tournament and will be hopeful of registering her first victory over the American and is 4/5 to do so.

The American fans can expect a tight match with both of these players in top form and the three set betting market looks to be the value.

Wozniacki just edges the favouritism, 11/4 to win in three, whereas Sharapova is 3/1, either way Arthur Ashe is in for a thriller.

Whoever wins today will be a huge favourite to go on to the final. See the full US Open tennis betting market here.
