Fulham reeling as Bobby Zamora suffers broken leg
Published:Fulham have been dealt a major blow with the news that their striker Bobby Zamora will be unavailable for a minimum of four months after breaking his leg during the 2-1 win against Wolves.
Zamora’s injury leaves Fulham facing an injury crisis up front, with fellow strikers Andy Johnson and Diomansy Kamara also crocked.
Midfielders Zoltan Gera and Clint Dempsey could be deployed in more advanced roles, while the recently signed forward Moussa Dembele shone against Wolves with two goals.
Fulham are 12/1 to be relegated this season, and although they have started the campaign well, Zamora’s injury could reveal a lack of strength in depth in terms of the squad’s attacking options.
Indeed, with the underwhelming Eddie Johnson and David Elm the only fit strikers left at Craven Cottage, Zamora’s absence will be keenly felt.
Zamora suffered the injury when he was tackled by Wolves’ Karl Henry, but Fulham manager Mark Hughes refused to blame the Wolves player for Zamora’s injury.
“There’s always a danger if you get tackled from the side or from behind that players’ legs can get trapped,” Hughes said.
“I don’t think there was any intent to hurt Bobby,” he added. “You don’t expect the circumstances of the injury to be the result of a challenge like that, but it can happen.”
