Ferguson takes hard stance with Rooney after reckless behaviour

It was thought that Wayne Rooney was rested for the game against Everton as Sir Alex Ferguson looked to keep him out of the spotlight after recent allegations surrounding his personal life.

However it has emerged that Ferguson is furious with his star striker’s recent behaviour and sent Rooney home from the Manchester United squad so that he could face his family and reconcile his marriage.

It seems that Ferguson is fed-up with players hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons and the hard stance taken with his invaluable striker is a reminder to those at United that bad behaviour will not be tolerated at the club.

Ferguson has a history of thrusting players who are under scrutiny straight back into the spotlight, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and, more recently, Cristiano Ronaldo were never taken out of the firing line, so it seemed strange when Rooney missed the game against Everton.

Ferguson has confirmed Rooney will be in the starting line-up when United host Rangers in the Champions League on Tuesday, but he will not tolerate any more misdemeanours and Rooney will be watched carefully as he reconstructs his marriage.

Rangers fans travel to Old Trafford ready to hound Rooney after his recent headlines and the Gers fans will be hoping the stick affects his performance as they look to upset their 12/1 odds and come away with three points.

United will hope that Rio Ferdinand is fit for the game against Rangers after shipping two injury time goals to allow Everton to emerge from Goodison Park with a 3-3 draw, and they are 1/5 to beat the Scottish champions.

Rooney is 4/7 to score any time against Rangers. See the full Manchester United vs Rangers match betting market here.
