Crewe allowed to keep Taylor until the end of the season

Crewe have received a big boost in their quest to gain promotion from League Two after Chelsea agreed to extend the loan of goalkeeper Rhys Taylor until the end of the season.

Taylor has played in all five of Crewe’s league fixtures so far this season, keeping one clean sheet in the process.

He was initially brought in by Dario Gradi on a two-month loan deal to provide cover for the injured Steve Phillips, but this has now been extended to allow the 20-year-old to gain further first-team experience until the end of the season.

Gradi told the official Crewe website: “Chelsea have been tracking him and they are pleased with him and pleased with us.

“He is happy here, he has done well, he is very quick and he keeps the ball out of the net.”

Crewe are 33/1 to secure promotion to League One this season as champions, which would represent a return to the division from which they were relegated two years ago.

The Railwaymen currently sit in mid-table after drawing their last two games 1-1 away at Lincoln and Stevenage and they return to Gresty Home for their next clash at home to Bury.

Although it will be important that Taylor keeps the goals out at one end, it is equally vital that they are scored at the other end if they are to challenge for promotion.

Shaun Miller has been their most prolific in front of goal so far with three League Two strikes and he is 25/1 to end the season as the division’s top scorer.
