Peter Crouch fears nobody in the Champions League proper
Published:Peter Crouch believes the talent displayed on the Tottenham Hotspur bench is good enough to challenge any team in Europe.
After the first week of the Champions League proper, the bucket seats in the White Hart Lane dugout cushioned the backsides of the second most expensive substitutes bench.
Only Barcelona can boast of wasting more money than Spurs and the £48m worth of talent on the bench included Roman Pavlyuchenko (£14m), Robbie Keane (£12m) and Wilson Palacios (£12m).
Crouch believes this strength in depth can guide Spurs through the latter stages of the Champions League but the North London club are bottom of the pile in terms of English clubs challenging for the biggest prize in club sport.
At 33/1 they are unlikely to trouble the Wembley scoreboard engineer.
Spurs host Wolverhampton Wanderers this weekend and are prone to a European hangover after profitable excursions in mid-week.
If Spurs had lost against Werder Bremen, history suggests that a win against Wolves, 4/9, would be a foregone conclusion – after Spurs last four European losses, they have beaten Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United at home, and Stoke City and Hull City away.
But since the 2007/08 season, Spurs have only won four times in fifteen attempts after picking up either a draw or a win in Europe, drawing three and losing eight, including losses at home to Everton, Hull, Birmingham and Wigan.
Wolves are 7/1 to win and upset the White Hart Lane faithful with the draw available at 3/1.
