Carayol wants to see a greater focus on attack at Lincoln
Published:Mustapha Carayol believes that Lincoln will have a greater chance of climbing the League Two table if they played in a more attack-minded way.
A shortage of goals has been one of the core reasons for Lincoln’s disappointing start to the campaign, as they have netted only four times in their seven fixtures in all competitions.
They currently lie in the bottom third of the League Two table on four points from five games, but have the opportunity to move in the right direction with a victory over Barnet in their next game.
Lincoln are evens to take the three points at home and Carayol is convinced that a change in mentality could improve their chances of claiming a win, especially after they lost 2-1 at Chesterfield in their last outing.
He told the Lincolnshire Echo: “The way we played against Chesterfield was too deep and when we did want to go forward there were not enough numbers up front.
“We simply have too many attack-minded players for us to sit in and defend for the whole game especially when we are away from home. We have to play with confidence against Barnet because we have the players who can score goals as long as we create the chances.”
If Lincoln do manage to increase their goals-to-games ratio then there is still ample time for them to bridge the nine-point gap behind current League Two leaders Shrewsbury.
