AC Milan focus on attack in their bid to win the Champions League

AC Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri watched his side labour to a 2-0 win at home to Auxerre last night, but will be encouraged by the dazzling contribution of Ronaldinho who will revel in Milan’s new attacking style.

Ibrahimovich opened his account for the Rossoneri after Robinho’s arrival on the hour mark for Alexandre Pato, and Allegri was able to watch his new attacking signings combine for the first time.

But it was Ronaldinho who starred in the attacking trio, and in the four strikers, Allegri hopes the attacking intent will rejuvenate an ageing back line and midfield in their quest for the Champions League which they are 16/1 to win.

But Milan’s ties with Real Madrid will be key in Group G and Mourinho’s comments after the Ajax game suggest he’s more concerned with keeping clean sheets than encouraging his attacking talent.

With the wealth of talent Mourinho has up front the Portuguese manager has faith that the goals will come, but with three clean sheets in his first three games, Mourinho believes defence is key to winning the Champions League – they are 11/2 to win the competition.

With the two contrasting styles, it’ll be interesting to see whether Milan’s attacking potency can break down the stubborn Madrid defence with Madrid’s style more likely to win them the Champions League.

In Group E, Bayern broke down a solid Roma display late in the game putting them in the ascendancy to qualify, and last year’s finalists are a big price at 14/1 to win the Champions League after proving they can cope without Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery.

CFR Cluj sprang the surprise of the night in beating Basle 2-1 and are dark horses to qualify for the latter stages of the tournament at the expense of Roma.
