Transfer news – Stoke steal pole position in race to sign Remy
Published:French forward Loic Remy, who is a transfer target for both Liverpool and West Ham, is travelling to England for talks with Stoke.
Remy is currently with French club Nice, and the 23-year-old has attracted interest across Europe having scored 14 goals in Ligue 1 last season.
Stoke are priced at 3/1 to finish in the top ten, and it is the Potters’ ambition which is said to attract Remy to the Britannia Stadium.
Beating their Premier League rivals to Remy’s signature would be a major coup for Stoke, and their manager Tony Pulis will be encouraged by comments from Remy’s employers.
“If the Liverpool trail has been abandoned and the West Ham one has clearly got colder, Stoke should get into position. And Rennes are still remaining,” said Nice general manager Patrick Governatori.
Rennes’ interest, however, depends on the future of a sought-after striker of their own. Asamoah Gyan has been heavily linked with a £16m move to Fenerbahce, and if that move was to be completed, Rennes would use the funds to sign Remy.
Ghana striker Gyan was shortlisted for the Golden Ball at the World Cup, and Stoke will hope that he stays with Rennes (25/1 to win the Ligue 1 title) to stop them from making a move for Remy.
Pulis was rumoured to be interested in signing West Ham’s Carlton Cole, but the Welshman has denied making a bid for the England international.
Stoke make the short trip to Wolves’ Molineux Stadium for their Premier League opener on August 14th, and Pulis could yet have Remy in his ranks for a match that the Potters are 11/5 to win.
