Tottenham vs Man City – teams announced

Published:

Joe Hart will start for Manchester City as they take on Tottenham in the first Premier League fixture of the season (kick-off 12.45pm).

City manager Roberto Mancini has named three of his summer signings in the starting line-up for the match at White Hart Lane, which the visitors are 11/5 to win.

Aleksandar Kolarov, Yaya Toure and David Silva all start, but it is the omission of Shay Given in goal that will raise most eyebrows, and possibly prompt other clubs to make an offer for the Irish keeper.

Carlos Tevez, who scored 23 league goals in a sparkling last Premier League campaign, leads the attack in a lone forward role and he is a tempting bet at 6/1 to score first.

City have confirmed the signing of Mario Balotelli from Inter Milan for a reported £22.5m, but the Italian forward will not feature today.

The hosts name a far more familiar side, and Jermain Defoe will be one of the biggest threats to the City backline. He is 9/2 to break the deadlock.

Tottenham won both their league encounters with City last season, and Harry Redknapp’s men begin this match as the 5/4 favourites to win.

The teams in full:

Tottenham: Gomes; Corluka, King, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Huddlestone, Modric, Bale; Crouch, Defoe

Man City: Hart; Richards, Kolo Toure, Kompany, Kolarov; De Jong, Barry, Yaya Toure, Wright-Phillips, Silva; Tevez
