Tiago sees wish granted as he rejoins Atletico on loan

Tiago has agreed to another year on loan at Atletico Madrid after a successful spell at the club last season.

The Portuguese midfielder spent the second half of the last campaign on loan at the Vicente Calderon from Juventus and struck three goals in 29 appearances.

It was suggested that Tiago would make the deal permanent over the summer, but Atletico manager Quique Sanchez Flores has instead settled for another loan move.

Tiago has revealed his delight at returning to the Spanish capital and will now be working hard to regain his match fitness in order to be available for selection for the reigning Europe League holders as soon as possible.

He said: “I am very happy. It was very difficult for me, but in the end I got what I wanted. I believe that we are much stronger than last year.

“Important players have arrived and we want to fight for the top places.”

Fran Merida and Uruguayan defender Diego Godin are other new faces to arrive at Atletico this summer as they look to defy odds of 66/1 to win their first La Liga title since 1996.

The former Chelsea man added that their main goal is to improve on their ninth place finish last season and challenge for a spot in the Champions League.

Another victory in the Europa League may present one of their best chances of silverware this campaign and they are 12/1 to successfully defend their title.

Juventus are also hoping to enjoy success in the Europa League and are 14/1 to win the tournament.

They must first qualify for the group stages of the competition by beating Sturm Graz in the final play-off round and are 4/6 to triumph in the away leg in Austria.

Barcelona and Real Madrid dominate the La Liga betting and are 4/5 and evens respectively to capture the title.
