Southampton still League One favourites despite slow start

Southampton started the season as strong favourites to win League One but are still waiting for their first victory after being held to a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient.

The Saints have opened with two home games after their away match against MK Dons was postponed following chairman Markus Liebherr’s death, however they have just a point to show for their efforts so far after losing their opener against Plymouth.

The one positive that Alan Pardew can take from the latest in a long line of unimpressive starts by Southampton is that no club has exploited it by winning each of their first three fixtures.

Instead, Carlisle, Oldham, Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday are all tied at the top on seven points. The south coast club, still 3/1 favourites to be crowned champions, play away for the first time this season against Bristol Rovers next weekend.
