Querrey conquers Murray in Farmers Classic final
Published:Andy Murray is still waiting for his first title of 2010 after he was edged out of the Farmers Classic final in three sets by Sam Querrey.
Querrey, who had lost all four of his previous matches against Murray, saved a match point en route to his 5-7 6-7 6-3 victory.
With the US Open beginning later this month, however, Murray can look forward to the last Grand Slam of the year boosted by a decent showing at Los Angeles this week.
Murray is 7/2 to win at Flushing Meadows, and the American showpiece event arguably represents the 23-year-old’s best hope of winning a Grand Slam title.
At 66/1, Querrey is a very tempting outside bet to claim his own first major title in New York, as the Farmers Classic was his fourth title of the year.
Querrey won at Queen’s in June, and his showing against Murray in Los Angeles suggests that the 22-year-old American could be a contender at the US Open.
With only a handful of Americans in the draw, Querrey could also be buoyed by the vociferous support he is bound to receive by a partisan home crowd in New York.
