Murray takes on Chardy as he chases another title in Cincinnati

Published:

Andy Murray continues his preparations for the US Open at the Western and Southern Cincinnati Masters this week, and his first hurdle to clear will be Frenchman Jeremy Chardy.

The two players have only met once before, and Murray won that clash in Montreal last year in straight sets. Another two-set victory for the Scot is priced at 2/5.

Chardy, however, has beaten both Nikolay Davydenko and Fernando Verdasco in recent weeks, and a shock win for the 23-year-old is far from impossible at 9/2.

Even with the mighty Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer taking part, Murray is the 11/4 favourite to add the Cincinnati Masters title to the Roger Cup crown he won in Toronto last week.

David Nalbandian vs John Isner
David Nalbandian is a convincing 4/9 to continue his powerful recent form with a win against John Isner, though Isner himself is also in good nick.

This will be the first match between the two players, and having reached last month’s Atlanta Tennis Championships final, Isner will fancy his chances of progressing in Cincinnati. He is 13/8 to beat Nalbandian.

Rafael Nadal vs Taylor Dent
Following some decent performances at recent ATP Tour events, Taylor Dent has risen to 83rd place in the world rankings, though he is still a rank outsider at 15/2 to beat world number one Nadal.

Nadal won their only previous meeting in straight sets, and the Spaniard is a convincing 1/6 to triumph in the same manner tonight.

Roger Federer is also in action tonight, and he is 1/9 to beat Uzbekistan’s Denis Istomin. The Swiss world number two is also 3/1 to win the entire tournament. See the full Western and Southern Cincinnati Masters Betting Odds market.
