Moore hopes promotion can heal Rotherham’s play-off wounds
Rotherham suffered the heartache of a play-off final defeat last season, but under Ronnie Moore, they are ready to ease their pain with promotion this term.
While Dagenham & Redbridge look forward to their first season in League One, the team they beat at Wembley in May face another campaign in English football’s fourth tier.
Rotherham, however, are a side who have experience of getting out of this division. Moore guided the Millers to successive promotions in 1999 and 2000, and they are 11/4 to go up this season.
Adam Le Fondre is a relentlessly prolific goalscorer, and the man who struck 27 league goals for Rotherham last season will be integral to their hopes of success again this term. At 7/1, Le Fondre is the clear favourite to be the leading marksman in League Two this season.
Whereas Rotherham came within a whisker of promotion, Morecambe were all but out after a 6-0 thrashing at the hands of Dagenham & Redbridge in the first leg of their play-off semi final.
Under Sammy McIlroy, Morecambe have soared from the Conference to League Two promotion candidates, and the Shrimps are 7/2 to go up this term.
This season is all the more significant for the seaside club as they move to their new ground, the Globe Arena, after 89 years at Christie Park.
Another team to rocket from non-league anonymity to Football League success is Aldershot, who lost to Rotherham at the play-off semi-final stage last season.
The Shots are priced at 4/1 to win promotion this season, and their hopes have been boosted by a productive summer in the transfer market.
Glen Little is a smart free signing, and the 34-year-old former Reading winger arrives with a wealth of promotion-winning experience.
