Middlesbrough vs Sheff United – Boyd out to open his account

Published:

Kris Boyd has endured a frustrating start to his Middlesbrough career, but the Scotland striker will be hoping to take out his anger on Sheffield United on Sunday.

Much was expected of the former Rangers marksman when he first arrived in England, and he was quickly installed as the favourite to be the Championship’s top scorer.

Having fired blanks against Ipswich and Leicester, however, Boyd has been somewhat of a disappointment.

And with Craig Bellamy made the instant 4/1 favourite to be the leading Championship scorer this season following his loan move to Cardiff City, Boyd is in danger of being left behind.

The Scottish forward could change all this against Sheffield United at the Riverside, where he is the 4/1 favourite to open the scoring.

Middlesbrough have not lost at home to the Blades since 1997, and they are a convincing 10/11 to claim another win against their fellow promotion chasers this time.

Sheffield United, meanwhile, will be hoping that new manager Gary Speed can inspire them to their first victory of the season.

United beat Boro 1-0 when the sides last met at Bramall Lane in January, and they are priced at 8/1 to claim a win of the same scoreline at the Riverside.

Middlesbrough will be particularly driven to succeed as, like Boyd, they too have underwhelmed this season.

Gordon Strachan’s men are winless thus far, but their fans will feel that it is just a matter of time before their big signings fire.

Who will be the Blades’ biggest threats? Ched Evans is 7/1 to break the deadlock. See the full Middlesbrough vs Sheffield United Match Betting Odds market.
