Fulham to bring Salcido to Craven Cottage from PSV

With Paul Konchesky seemingly certain to leave Fulham for Liverpool, Mark Hughes has wasted little time in finding a suitable replacement after agreeing a deal to sign Carlos Salcido from PSV Eindhoven.

Holland under-21 star Erik Pieters has dislodged Salcido from the PSV first-team and Hughes has moved to bring him to the Premier League.

It is believed that the transfer will cost Fulham £1.6m, although the Mexican defender still needs to sort out personal terms.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Hughes said: “We’ve enquired, obviously, about Salcido and hopefully we will get that one over the line. He is a player that I think will help us in terms of his flexibility and his ability to play a number of positions.

“We are looking to have quality in all positions. Left-back is a position we are a little light in.”

Hughes has made an unbeaten start to his tenure as Fulham manager and the club are 40/1 to embark on a strong season and finish in the Premier League’s top four.

Liverpool had also been linked with Salcido in order to fill their shortage of options at left-back, but Hodgson appears to have decided that it would be a better decision to return to his former club for Konchesky.

Fulham’s next game is away at Blackpool, which will be the Premier League newcomers’ first ever home game in the division.

Blackpool are 21/10 to mark the special occasion with a win, with Fulham 13/10 to collect their first three points of the campaign.

Fulham are 9/1 to be relegated from the Premier League this season, see the entire market.
