Forlan wanting switch to Inter Milan from Atletico Madrid

Diego Forlan is keen on completing a deal to move from Atletico Madrid to reigning Champions League holders Inter Milan.

Forlan was handed the Golden Shoe for being the best player at the World Cup after netting five goals for Uruguay and helping to fire them to a surprise place in the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by Holland.

He was also pivotal to ensuring Atletico won the Europa League last season with victory over Fulham in the final, but could do little as they only finished ninth in La Liga.

New Inter manager Rafa Benitez is keen to develop the squad he inherited from former boss Jose Mourinho, with Forlan a star candidate to improve his striking options.

The 31-year-old is eager to display his talents at the highest level and said: “Inter are a great club with great players. Winning three titles in one season is not easy.”

Inter are 9/1 to successfully defend their Champions League crown and their chances have additionally been boosted by the news that Argentineans Diego Milito and Javier Zanetti have signed new deals to remain at the club.

Milito, who will be among the favourites to partner Forlan in attack at the Serie A champions, has agreed a one-year extension on his contract to remain at the San Siro until 2014.

Meanwhile, Zanetti has signed for two years, which is likely to result in him ending his playing days at the club.

Inter have won the Serie A crown for the past five seasons and are 11/10 to do so again this campaign, with rivals AC Milan, Roma and Juventus all 4/1.

It is 7/4 for an English team to win the Champions League this season, with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal all liable to mount a strong challenge.
