Carling Cup offers plenty of value

With the Carling Cup now in full swing, a number of the big guns are close to entering the competition and laying down their challenge.

Manchester United may be many people’s idea of a good Carling Cup bet having won the competition for the past two years and are 5/1 to make it a hat-trick.

They followed up on defeating Tottenham on penalties in 2009 by coming from behind to beat Aston Villa 2-1 last season.

However, it is Chelsea who top the Carling Cup prices at 4/1 as they go in search of their first success in the competition since 2007.

The Premier League champions have not seriously threatened in the last two seasons as they have failed to make it past the fifth round.

Big-spending Manchester City will have the squad depth to mount assaults on all competitions and are also 5/1 in the Carling Cup betting to lift the trophy for the first time since 1976.

Elsewhere, Tottenham are 7/1 and Liverpool, who are the tournament’s most successful team with seven victories, are 9/1 under new manager Roy Hodgson.

Meanwhile, despite manager Arsene Wenger regularly choosing to use the Carling Cup to provide some useful first-team experience to many of his young guns, Arsenal are one of the most consistent teams in the tournament.

The Gunners have made at least the quarter finals for the past seven seasons, since being knocked out in the third round by Sunderland back in the 2002/03 season and are 12/1 for those looking to bet on the Carling Cup.

Everton are 14/1 in the Carling Cup betting odds, Aston Villa are 18/1 and Stoke, who have tended to make it through the early rounds in recent years, are a much bigger 40/1.
