Brazilian Wesley bound for “dream” Werder Bremen move
Published:Days after losing Mezit Ozil to Real Madrid earlier this summer, Werder Bremen have been quick to snap up a replacement in order to reinforce their squad for an attack on the Bundesliga title.
Wesley has signed from Santos on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee and the 23-year-old starlet will join up with his new team mates next week, ruling him out of the second leg of their Champions League play off tie with Italian side Sampdoria tomorrow.
Werder, who are on course for the Champions’ League group stage after defeating Sampdoria 3-1 in the first leg last Wednesday, are 12/5 to defeat Sampdoria in Italy but with a two-goal cushion, the German club will be more interested in protecting their lead making the draw look a better bet, odds are also 12/5.
This is Sampdoria’s third attempt at overturning a two-goal deficit in Europe and goals from Clemens Fritz, Torsten Frings and Claudio Pizzaro have given Bremen the upper hand at the half way stage, but a last-minute consolation from Giampaolo Pazzini have given Sampdoria fans some hope.
If you think it could be third time lucky for Sampdoria, they are 7/1 to win by a score line of 2-0 which would see them into the group stages.
With Werder losing 4-1 to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim in their Bundelsiga opener at the weekend, Sampdoria could fancy their chances of an upset in Genoa but one stat to bear in mind is Sampdoria have never qualified for the group stages of the Champions League and their last appearance amongst Europe’s elite was in 1992 when they lost the European Cup final to Barcelona.
