Blackburn in big-money takeover talks with Indian businessman

Blackburn are in negotiations with Indian businessman Ahsan Ali Syed about a proposed takeover of the Premier League club.

Ongoing talks with the Bahrain-based Syed are said by Blackburn to be “cordial and productive”, and a deal could be brokered before the transfer window’s closure at the end of August.

The negotiations come at a poignant time, as it is 10 years ago to the day since the death of Jack Walker, the former Rovers owner whose investment helped guide the club to the Premier League title in 1995.

Blackburn are priced at 66/1 to finish in the top four this season, but such lofty hopes could become reality if Syed’s investment is as large as he suggests.

“Between £80 and £100m is what I’d be allocating for players,” Syed said. “But I’m not saying that there is not talent in the team. The talent is already very good.

“Right now Big Sam has done a fantastic job with very limited resources. If I can give him some good resources I’m pretty confident he could work wonders.”

Talks are ongoing, and the 36-year-old Syed is keen to complete the takeover within two weeks, in order to give Allardyce his lucrative support in the transfer market.

The priority for Allardyce, however, is Saturday’s match away to Birmingham, which Blackburn are 23/10 to win.

Rovers began the season in fine form with a 1-0 victory against Everton, and they’ll be looking to continue in this vein against Birmingham. Who are you backing? See the full Birmingham vs Blackburn Match Betting Odds market.
