Uruguay vs Holland – Dutch most likely to see yellow first
Published:For all that is magnificent about Arjen Robben he has rather made a name for himself as a man who goes down surprisingly easily. This certainly seemed to rile Felipe Melo in the Brazil match, as he saw red for treading on the Dutch wizard.
Hence, the likes of Caceres and Gargano on the left hand side for Uruguay could have their work cut out if they want to avoid getting carded in the match. Their odds for becoming the first name in the book are 14/1 respectively.
That said, despite Uruguay’s completely unfounded reputation as international tough guys, in comparison to the Dutch team, they are a rather placcid bunch.
In their five World Cup 2010 matches so far, they have gone two matches without receiving a single yellow card – against South Africa and South Korea – and they only incurred one against Mexico.
On the downside, the other two matches – against France and Ghana – both featured a Uruguay red card.
Holland, on the other hand, have yet to received a red, but have received the most yellows in four of their five matches, and have yet to make it through a first half without at least one name going in the book.
The Dutch have intriguing odds of 7/4 to receive the most booking points (10 for a yellow, 25 for a red).
Uruguay’s Diego Perez is the favourite for the first yellow card – with odds of 8/1 – but current form would suggest that a Dutchman is more likely to feel the ref’s wrath first.
With 11 yellows last season for Bayern Munich, Mark van Bommel is no stranger to an official’s notepad, so could make for a rather tempting punt, with odds of 9/1 to be booked first.
