Murray kicks off Farmers Classic with a winnable first tie

| 29.07.2010

Andy Murray takes on Tim Smyczek at the Farmers Classic, the British number one’s first tournament since Wimbledon.

It will also be Murray’s first match since his split from coach Miles Maclagan, who was a part of the ‘Team Murray’ coaching troupe for almost three years.

At 1/20 to win the match, Murray is the favourite by a monumental distance, but there could be more value in the set betting market.

The world number four has never faced Smyczek, and the 22-year-old American could at least take a set off his opponent. Murray is 9/2 to win in three sets.

The best value at the Farmers Classic, however, could be in Sam Querrey’s match with Rainer Schuettler.

Sam Querrey vs Rainer Schuettler
Schuettler beat Querrey 6-3 2-6 6-4 6-3 when they met at this year’s Australian Open, and the experienced German is a very tempting 12/5 to beat Querrey again.

Schuettler has enjoyed a career high ranking of fourth, and while Querrey has enjoyed a successful 2010 to date, the American could come unstuck against his seasoned opponent.

Marcos Baghdatis vs Janko Tipsarevic
Another interesting match-up sees Marcos Baghdatis face Janko Tipsarevic, where 2006 Australian Open finalist Baghdatis is the 4/7 favourite to win.

Tipsarevic, however, could be well worth backing at 5/4. Ranked 46th in the world, the Serbian’s powerful groundstrokes will make life difficult for Baghdatis.

Is Murray in any danger of slipping up? Smyczek is 15/2 to win. See the full Murray vs Smyczek Match Betting Odds market.
