Miroslav moves Klose to World Cup goalscoring history
Published:Miroslav Klose needs only two more goals to become the all-time World Cup top scorer, and he is 5/2 to reach this landmark.
After his brace against Argentina, Klose is now level with his fellow countryman Gerd Muller on 14 goals, while Brazil’s Ronaldo currently leads the way with the 15 he scored between 1998 and 2006.
And should Klose manage the feat, it would represent a remarkable turnaround for a player who was ridiculed before the tournament began.
Having only managed three Bundesliga goals for Bayern Munich, Klose endured a difficult last season, and fans and media alike were quick to write off the 32-year-old.
With four goals from four World Cup matches, however, Klose is now a strong 7/2 contender to win the Golden Shoe.
Next up for Germany will be Spain in the semi-finals. Klose is 6/1 to open the scoring, and his two goals against Argentina further proved how big a threat he is to the big guns.
Klose’s team-mate Thomas Muller also has four goals at the World Cup so far, but with the 20-year-old midfielder suspended for the Spain clash, Klose looks set to be the topscoring German in South Africa.
With Germany guaranteed two more matches at the World Cup (a semi-final and either a final or a third-place play-off), Klose should have plenty of chances to add to his goalscoring tally.
And if the Bayern Munich striker keeps summersaulting in celebration, he seems destined to etch his name into World Cup folklore.
