In-form Bell targets more runs against tepid Tigers attack
Published:Fresh from his match-winning innings of 84 not out, Ian Bell is 7/2 to be England’s top scorer in the second one-day international against Bangladesh.
Innings of contrasting style from Andrew Strauss and Bell saw England to a comfortable six-wicket win in the first one-day international at Trent Bridge on Thursday.
Strauss teed off to the tune of 50 in 37 balls at the top of the order while Bell top-scored with an expertly measured 84 not out to see England past a moderate target of 251 with 29 balls to spare.
Both men have had their suitability for 50-over cricket questioned in recent times but, in a match which was the first international to be broadcast in 3D, the pair proved they have more than one dimension.
Strauss hit the ball to all parts of the ground before being run out, and he is 11/4 to be the leading runscorer when the teams meet again on Saturday.
Bell, making his first ODI appearance since November 2008 in place of the injured Kevin Pietersen, has particular cause for satisfaction after ensuring England maintained their 100 percent record over the Tigers in all forms of the game.
England are firm 1/12 favourites to win the second instalment of the two-match series, and boosted by Thursday’s win, they should have little difficulty in taming the Tigers again.
