Free-scoring Saints set their sights on League One crown
Published:League One promises to be as fiercely competitive as ever this season, and Southampton are the 11/4 favourites to be crowned champions.
A ten-point deduction ultimately cost the Saints a play-off spot last season, though they will be an equally potent force this time around.
Rickie Lambert topped the League One scoring charts last term with a whopping 31 goals, while another Saints striker, Lee Barnard, was fourth with 24 strikes.
At 6/1, Sheffield Wednesday are strong contenders for the title having been relegated from the Championship on the last day of last season.
The Hillsborough club have lost striker Leon Clarke to QPR, but they have retained the nucleus of a decent team, with Darren Potter, Jermaine Johnson and Marcus Tudgay staying put.
And by signing Gary Teale and Paul Heffernan, the Owls have two acquired two players who have won promotion from League One with Wigan and Doncaster respectively.
Another team to fall from the Championship, Plymouth, are priced at 14/1 to go back up as champions.
Like Sheffield Wednesday, Argyle have preserved the core of their side, and the likes of Marcel Seip, Damien Johnson and New Zealand’s World Cup striker Rory Fallon should excel at this level.
The less than prudent League Two champions of last season, Notts County, have long since parted company with Sven-Goran Eriksson and they are 14/1 to clinch a second successive title.
Also coming up from the fourth tier of English football are Rochdale, who are 33/1 to follow their promotion with a League One title-winning season.
Losing play-off semi-finalists Charlton and Huddersfield are both available at 8/1 to win the League One title, while the runners-up at Wembley, Swindon, are 14/1.
