Eric Cantona doesn’t fancy England’s chances
Rubbing a great big handful of salt into England’s wounds following a dreadful showing at this year’s World Cup, Eric Cantona has given his damning verdict on England’s future tournament chances:
“I’m sure England will not qualify for the Euros or World Cup, as you need players who play at the highest level.”
“How many English players play in the Premier League?”
As things stand, England are still the fourth favourites to WIN Euro 2012, with odds of 8/1.
But first, there is the small matter of their qualifying group.
As ever, England are the favourites to go through, with odds of 2/7, but with plenty of potential bumps in the road lurking within the group, it mightn’t be plain sailing.
Against the Swiss – the only side to put on over on Spain during the World Cup – the matches have ended in a draw on two of the last four occasions when the sides met.
The last two meetings with Bulgaria have also ended in draws (1-1 in 1999, and then 0-0 in 1998).
And Wales won’t be a walkover either.
With England’s Golden Generation becoming rather rusty and frayed at the edges, can England boast better youngsters than Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey?
Or a left-sided player as terrifying as Craig Bellamy?
